About our Studio

We are currently registering students for January 2018 classes

We are a boutique studio offering classes and courses centered on the wholistic approach of MindBody•Life•Education

Classes and courses take a therapeutic mindfulness approach and focus on relaxation, restoration and vitality. Set on a one acre property in Oak Ridges, Richmond Hill, FireBird Studio provides a rural retreat in an urban setting. Our 1000 sq ft building was once home to a beautiful furniture re-upholstering and refinishing workshop. It took creativity, trust and vision to actualize Firebird Studio. My partner Tom and I were thrilled daily as we walked the property and found numerous treasures that we have repurposed and recycled to create this beautiful educational practice space inspired by nature. Learning as we went along, we researched and sourced out materials to complete the space. It is our pleasure to provide quality service and classes to a quality community.
Tara Brasier
Tara Brasier - Studio Co-Founder and MindBody•Life•Education Teacher
Background: Teaching and education have been passions of mine since the age of 12. Against the odds of teachers and professors who bet against me, I graduated with my graduate diploma of education from the University of New South Wales in 1997. As an elementary school teacher, with a specialist of special education designation, I worked in both private and public sectors of education in both Canada and Australia for over 12 years. I began yoga and meditation practicing and teacher training in 2006. I currently have over 1500 hours in formal study and countless hours of personal practice and teaching.

As a MindBody*Life*Education Teacher: Having gone through both a wide range of studies and personal mental & physical evolutions, I understand the depth and breadth of a safe and beneficial practice. My approach to teaching is to integrate mindfulness, go slowly, and allow the time necessary for maximum benefits to be gained from the practice. By moving slowly, students can experience the purpose and benefits of mindfulness in movement and meditations; to work on the relationship between mind, body and spirit as they relate to all aspects in their daily lives. My studies have taken me through numerous forms of both physical-focused power yoga styles and yoga as mindbody medicine. My trainings include: Moksha, Ashtanga (through Downward Dog-Toronto with Diana Bruni and Ron Reid), Classical, Restorative, Yin, Mindfulness Base Stress Reduction and many more.

Mindfulness Practices Helped Me Transition from a Life of Darkness into Light: In my teenage years I was diagnosed for the first time with a major depression, IBS and an anxiety disorder. I spent many years in talk therapy of various kinds, but had no real luck getting out of the physical and mental-emotional ruts that entrenched themselves in my life. In fact, talk therapy often made many aspects of daily life worse. With over 12 years experience teaching in the school systems, I saw that mental and physical health concerns are very common in today's youth as well as the educators that work with them daily. Embarking on a self-empowering journey into mindfulness and yogic practices enabled me to live a life of meaning and happiness that I had never previously experienced. As a step mother to four I see how important it is to model tools and techniques to our kids that help them be present in life and live fully. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 years ago, and that gave me the opportunity to experience first hand how mindfulness practices transformed my relationship to pain both physically and mental/emotionally.

How the studio came to be: My partner Tom and I moved from Mississauga to Richmond Hill in 2015. We spent many months converting the workshop on our property into a beautiful space for FireBird studio. This is my opportunity to bring MindBody*Life*Education to the York Region. I am grateful for all the amazing people I have met and taught here already, and excitedly look forward to meeting many more of you in our classes and courses here at FireBird Studio.

As an engineer and a marketing consultant, I've always reveled in the polarity of everything I do. On one hand, there is the practical, technical side of what I deal with on a daily basis in my consultancy. On the other hand, there's an intense creative energy that fuels me in many areas. Co-Founding Firebird Studio with Tara has been a great journey of the practical and the creative, as we've juggled both the aspects of physically creating a studio space, as well as crafting the identity of FireBird Studio as an haven of Mindfulness.

The more connected our society has become through technology and social media, the less connected people have become with themselves. Our aim - using a variety of Mindfulness practices - is to help bring people back into the oasis of their own authenticity so they can find the balance between the always-on nature of today's society, and their own Body, Mind & Spirit.

Our Classes & Courses

We use the wholistic approach of MindBody•Life•Education,with their key aspect being a gentle, meditative approach to practise.
Our classes are available in 10 week blocks (except Meditation, which is a 12-week block.
If you don't see a class at a time you would like, let us know and we will run a class when a minimum of 8 people sign up.
Our courses are designed to give you a more focused, in-depth educational experience.

FireBird Studio is located on the north side of King Road. When you arrive, take the driveway that branches to the left - the studio is a separate building behind the main house.
